Star Wars, Betamax, CBS/Fox Video USA, 1983

Reissue of the first sell-through release after CBS Video Enterprises and 20th Century Fox Video merged in 1982. You'll see the similar rebranding on all releases of the first Star Wars movie, across all formats.

The programme starts with the CBS/Fox logo and goes straight into the 20th. Century Fox fanfare. There are no trailers or other features of any kind. The FBI warning comes after the end credits, and that's the end of the tape.

There is a watermark protruding from the upper left corner which says "FOXVID 7". (See detail to the right, click image to enlarge). This would not have been visible back in the day, with the excessive overscan on old tube TVs.

They used the same box for both VHS and Beta, with only a sticker noting the format. The Beta logo on the spine is only visible when the drawer is closed. On the spine there is a sticker covering the Stereo logo. The Betamax edition wouldn't feature stereo sound until 1984.

The drawer-design of the box is overly complicated, and would be replaced by a simple slipcase version when the movie was rereleased on home video in 1984.
