Ewoks, DVD-R, Bootleg, USA 2010

This is an "unofficial" release, featuring all the Ewoks episodes, spread to 4 discs on burned DVD-R media. The menus are well laid out, and feature animated episode clips with the Ewoks theme playing in the background. The discs come in a 4-disc DVD cover, all with full-colour artwork. All episodes feature the retailer's watermark in the bottom right corner.
This set features all the episodes in just about adequate quality, but squeezing 7 or more episodes onto 1 disc takes its toll. There are signifcant compression artefacts, and the blended frames indicate that these come from UK PAL-system VHS releases. The image quality on the episodes "The Three Lessons" , "Prow Beaten" and "Baga's Rival" stand out as being particularily inferior, and obviously the most generations removed from their original source. These also happen to be the only episodes not released on the UK VHS tapes. Each episode is presented with full opening and closing credits, but it is apparent that the credits have been duplicated on all episodes, and were not part of the original recording. Audio is encoded as Dolby Digital 2-channel, but is monoaural.
The complete Ewoks and Droids series has never seen an official release on DVD anywhere in the world, despite the obvious demand. Enter: Mail-order DVD retailers specializing in "rare" releases. They transitioned from catalogues and classifieds to online websites in the 2000s and are still around today, as of 2025. With the advent of fan preservations available for free via online downloads, and the series' release on Disney+, the demand for stuff like this has almost disappeared. I am ambivalent to releases such as these. At the time they did fulfill a demand, and as long as there isn't an official release available they do serve a function in keeping media available. But I don't wish to promote specific retailers, so I have blurred the retailer's logo on the images.
