Disc

Star Wars Trilogy 3-in-1, DVD, Malaysia, 2005

This release promises all three prequels on one disc. The films are apparently ripped from the official DVD releases, but to fit them on a single-layered disc they have reduced the resolution of the DVD video to 352x480 (known as "Half D1"). The anamorphic enhancement has also been lost in the process. You can imagine the quality is only so-so.

There appears to be no menu, but that may just be because my disc is sketchy. Audio is Dolby Digital 2-channel, presumably with Pro-logic encoding intact, but I couldn't check. Subtitles for the alien languages does not appear automatically, but there are both Malay and English subtitle tracks available. The subtitle overlays are shifted to the right, making them unreadable (See screenshot samples below), but this may also be due to my copy being faulty.

Unfortunately, the data layer of my DVD has oxidized completely and the disc is no longer readable. It was already glitchy when I bought it back in 2005, and as of 2011 isn't even recognized as a DVD by my players. I was able to extract a few files, so I could tell what was on the disc.

The spine has the crease "tell" of a typical Asian bootleg being shipped flat without a cover. You'll see that a lot.
