This is a bootleg box set from China, appearing in late 2005. The cover says "trilogy", but the set includes the first six movies and the four official supplemental discs (One for each of the Prequel Trilogy films, and one for the Original Trilogy).
As with many of the bootleg sets that surfaced around this time, all the discs are rips of the official NTSC DVDs. All the films have English DD 5.1 sound and Chinese dubs, and Episode III even has a Thai dub. Subtitles are available in English, Chinese, and Korean. The original Audio Commentary tracks are also present on all the films. The bonus discs all have Chinese subtitles on the main documentaries. The "D9" mentioned on the case usually denotes that dual-layered discs are used, a sort of quality stamp on bootlegs, and these are indeed dual-layered, even the bonus discs. The DVD-ROM extras are ususally the first to go when disc space is limited, but as these are dual-layered, those features are retained. Disc 8, the Empire disc, is unreadable as of 2025. The VOBs are dated 23.11.2005. I am using the "MAC-220" product number on the spine to identify this set. It consists of a sturdy chipboard case, housing a 10-disc digipack tray assembly. Though it is difficult to capture on pictures and scans, the slipcase is slightly embossed, with a pearlescent effect whihch is quite attractive. The bootleggers did good! Once all the Star Wars movies were officially available on DVD, the bootleggers switched tactics. Instead of simply getting the movies out there, they actually had to beat the legit releases by offering collected box sets and fancy packaging. As soon as Episode III was released, complete sets of all six movies started to appear out of Asia, which was something you couldn't get officially at the time. |
