Star Wars, Laserdisc, CLV, CBS/FOX Video Japan, 1983
Version "A"
|
The first Japanese release of Star Wars on Laserdisc came in 1983, a year later than both the US and the UK. The movie is in fullscreen, in English with Japanese subtitles. The subtitles for this release are vertical, something I haven't seen on any other Japanese releases. The film is spread across three sides in the CLV format, omitting the need for time compression like the 1982 US Laserdisc used. There are no company logos or copyright notices before the film, the programme starts immediately with the 20th Century Fox logo from the film itself. The copyright scroll comes at the end of the film.
There are two different covers for this release. See "Version B" here. What I assume to be a repressing added some info on CBS to the back cover (see below). They otherwise appear to be identical.
My copy is missing the OBI. Japanese laserdiscs command a higher price if they come with their original OBI, a price/information strip that is common on Japanese media but often discarded by the original buyer. |
