Star Wars Trilogy Special edition, Laserdisc, Encore Ent. video UK, 1997

UK distributor Encore Entertainment secured the rights to release a UK box set of the Star Wars trilogy Special Editions on Laserdisc in 1997. The "box" is a simple cardboard slipcase housing the individual jackets.

This was the first time the Star Wars films had been available on UK Laserdisc since their original issues in the early 80s. For the first time these were now available in Widescreen and with Digital Surround sound, though only in the Pro Logic encouded matrixed format. Sadly, PAL Laserdiscs did not have the bandwidth to carry a Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC-3) surround soundtrack which made the US equivalent the better buy.

The first pressing of this box set was limited to 5000 units. Subsequent pressings were not numbered. My copy is no. 3636 of 5000
