Star Wars Episode I, VCD, Bootleg Version "Z", 1999
|
Obviously a bootleg. The cover art and discs are nothing special. What's actually ON the discs is known as the "Z" version, for the "Z" that appears in the upper, left corner of the screen. There were other bootlegs doing the rounds as well, but I've only ever seen this one first hand. The image and sound are abysmal, as it was shot with a videocamera at a public screening, but at least you get the audience participation experience - the crowd cheers when the Star Wars title appears. The film is complete, but you get just 2 seconds of the end credits.
Just days after Episode I premiered in the US, this bootleg showed up worldwide. As the international release date of Episode I was much later, I couldn't resist seeing the film on this poorly shot bootleg. My DVD player at the time couldn't even play VCDs, so I had to borrow a machine to dub the discs over to VHS tape. I watched this bootleg over and over that first year. Ahhh... Good times. |
