The then-new Star Wars Special Editions were issued worldwide on home video in 1997, both for sale and rental.
The UK rental editions presented the films in cropped "fullscreen", with original English Hi-Fi audio. The audio mix of the Special Edition now contains C-3PO's "tractor beam" line as standard.
These rental versions come in the bigger "Big Box" clamshell cases typically used for rental tapes in the UK. At first glance they appear identical to the smaller sell-through versions, as they are just about identical apart from the size difference. In an online auction it can be difficult to catch these without something to compare them to.
