Star Wars, VHS, CBS/Fox Video UK, 1983

"Movies in a Box, from CBS/Fox"

One year after the 1982 UK premiere of Star Wars on home video with the "Rental library" tape, the film was rereleased. It was still only for rental, but the "Rental Library" moniker was removed. The tape was rebranded with the new CBS/Fox label since CBS Video Enterprises and 20th Century Fox Video merged in 1982. You'll see the similar rebranding on all post-1982 releases of the first Star Wars movie, across all formats.

Home Video was a booming market in 1982, and the CBS/Fox branding was now front and center on the tape. The tape starts with a trailer montage called "CBS/Fox Time In", and a presenter proudly declaiming their new slogan: "Movies in a Box, from CBS/Fox." What follows are 5 abridged trailers for upcoming releases (including The Empire Strikes Back), all with title cards in the most 80s aesthetic ever!

CBS/Fox video would transition into "Fox Video" in 1991 and later "20th Century Fox Home Entertainment" in 1995. The CBS/Fox name was still being used until 1998, and there were releases bearing the Fox Video logo until 1999. Confusing? Not really, they're basically the same company. What surprised me was that the late 70s video distribution company "Magnetic Video" is also a Fox company, since Fox purchased it in 1979 (Source: Wikipedia). It's all connected!
