Droids Vol.2, VHS, MAYCO A/S, Norway 1988

Unlike with the Ewoks, only two volumes of Droids were released in Norway. Unlike most animated children's programming, these episodes were not dubbed in Norwegian but had subtitles only. This must have limited the appeal to local youngsters. The episodes are presented with a single set of opening and closing credits, but retaining the title cards at the beginning of each episode.

The 80's rental tapes from Norwegian distributor MAYCO are extremely rare. The company enforced a strict rule of having every tape returned after the rental store's lease ended. Therefore, relatively few tapes from the company are available on the open market. These sometimes show up for sale in Norwegian Facebook groups dedicated to vintage VHS collecting. They are relatively common compared to other Star Wars tapes, but getting one that isn't all chewed up is rare. Back in 2006 I got one of these in a trade for a duplicate I had of the original, Norwegian Star Wars inlay from 1983. It always comes in handy to have doubles. |
