Star Wars Episode I, Rental version, VHS, Widescreen, Egmont Entertainment Norway, 2000

This is the rental version, almost indistinguishable from the sell-through tape apart from a small notice of this being "for rent only" on the back, and an exlusive UPC number. It comes in the same "smallbox" as a regular sell-through tape. I can only assume this originally had a gold case like the sell-through release, but the two copies I've come across both had a regular black case when I found them.

In Norway, the VHS was only issued in Widescreen on both rental and sell-through. The movie retains its original language but has Norwegian subtitles. The opening crawl is recreated in Norwwegian, just like the regular sell-through version. The opening copyright text is different, and states that this tape is only for rental, not to be sold. Otherwise the content is identical to the sell-through tape.

This was somewhat of a surprise find in my own collection, and I suspect I didn't know it was the rental variant when I got this originally. I can't recall when or how I acquired it, but the first copy I found came without the actual tape. In 2025 I happened upon another copy in a lot of children's films. It takes an eagle eye to spot this rental version among the hundreds of sell-through tapes being offered on marketplaces.
