All Empire Strikes Back reels were released in clamshell covers, a standard in the maturing Super8 market at the time. There were supposed to be three volumes of ESB released by Ken Films. Afraid that the Super8 market was being supplanted by VHS and Beta, Ken Films decided to drop the planned third volume. This accounts for the hurried and choppy editing on this second volume, having to wrap up the story in just this second reel.
