Star Wars Episode II, DVD, Bootleg, China (?) 2002
What is retained from the official DVD is the anamorphic widescreen image and the Dolby Digital 5.1 English soundtrack, and the Audio commentary is also present. Subtitles are optional, and come in English, Chinese, Indonesian and Thai. Any on-screen subtitles for the alien languages are removed, so you'll have to enable subtitles from the language menu to get the translations. The bootleggers kept two different versions of the main menu, which appear randomly each time you start the disc. The DVD-ROM StarWars.com features have been removed, though their menu screen remains.
The cover and disc contains no foreign languages, just English, and I suspect this particular release was made specifically to cater to English speaking customers. If it wasn't for the Asian subtitle options, you couldn't point to Asia being the country of origin for this bootleg. The .VOB files are dated September 2002.
This particular bootleg was found in a thrift shop in Norway in 2026, along with several other Star Wars bootlegs.
This is a bootleg of the official US DVD, but with all extras removed. It's crammed onto a single layer disc with a high level of compression.
